A. The shipping regulations are much easier than one might think.  It is perfectly legal for an individual to ship a firearm directly to me and I am able to ship it directly back to that individual without going through a dealer.  I am required to return the firearm only to the name and address from which it came.  To return it to any other person or address would be recognized as a transfer and would require that a dealer receive the gun at the other end.  You can use any carrier that you like the U.S. Postal Service is probably the most convenient followed by UPS or Fed-Ex.  What ever works best for you will work fine for me.  Be sure to insure the package for full replacement value, this will insure that a signature is required

You Keep the hard case shipping program

A. We cannot ship any firearms out of the country but we can ship any of our products.  For the most part we ship US Postal Small Packets - Airmail or (Par Avion), or we can ship Global Priority or Global express.  To calculate the shipping cost you can go to the United States Postal Service  home page and then enter your information.  

 

A. Before shipping any firearm, it is best to contact me first so that we can discuss all the details.    Upon completion of all the work I will contact you before the firearm is shipped so that you will know it is on the way and also make any final payment arrangements that might be necessary.

A. The rifles built at Score High Gunsmithing are as accurate as their components will allow them to be.  Each rifle is capable of world class accuracy.  A sporter weight rifle with a standard chamber will typically shoot about a 3/8" five shot group at a hundred yards.  Tight neck chambered sporters shoot even better.  The Heavy Varmint modals and the bench rest guns are capable of shooting in the .100's or sub .100's.  To achieve accuracy of this degree everything has to be perfect. Not only do you have to have a perfect rifle but you have to have perfect ammunition, a ridged shooting bench and a  high quality rest.  By far the most important and the hardest to attain is perfect technique and discipline  but with out it you just can't consistently shoot 3/8"or less.  There is one more very important factor, weather conditions.  There have been a lot of very prestigious matches won with aggregates of greater than 3/4" because of tricky unpredictable weather.
       We guarantee you an accurate rifle.  If you feel your Score High rifle doesn't shoot as well as it should we will go over it again and again until it does.  Return it to us along with 50 or so rounds of ammo and we will take it to the range and find out why.  We have had in the past a couple of barrels that for whatever reason, where not capable of extreme accuracy, those barrels where replaced. and the rifles taken out to the range and tested.

A. No fluting your barrel will not make it more accurate, it will however make it lighter.  Fluting can be a very involved topic.  Follow this link if you are interested in more of my views about barrel fluting .

A. That really depends on the bedding job.  Usually you can bed about 3 actions with a 4oz Kit.  Some stocks with large barrel channels to be filled can require as much as 6 or 7 ounces of epoxy.

A. On most all bolt action rifles the magazine box is held in position by a cut out in the receiver.  The Browning A-bolt uses the floor plate to attach their magazine box. Browning's box system is simply not conducive to use with a Benchrest follower.

A. Although we do gunsmithing we do not carry a supply of parts.

 

 Q. Do you make drill jigs for rifles other than Remingtons? 

Answer: Not at this time but we are actively working on adding to the product line.

 

Descriptions and Definitions

As a serious shooter, perhaps you want a better barrel than what comes on a factory rifle, but you aren't demanding match accuracy. You also don't mind saving a little money. For you, the Lone Star barrel is ideal. Inside these barrels, the groove diameter is within 0.001" of Shilen's standard diameter, and bore uniformity is within 0.0005". While these dimensions may not be exceptional by Shilen standards, they'd please the heck out of production barrel makers. So how much difference do these bore dimensions make in terms of accuracy compared to their match barrels? Once again, it's difficult to measure, but in many calibers and barrel twists, probably not much and maybe not any. Never has so much barrel cost so little. This barrel is available only in chrome-moly.

 

Shilen's Match Grade barrels don't quite meet Select Match criteria - but not by much! In these barrels, the bore must measure within 0.0005" of our standard diameter and cannot vary in diameter more than 0.0003" for the length of the barrel. So how much accuracy does a couple of "ten-thousandths" give away, compared to our Select Match barrels? Perhaps not any! The point is, whether or not there is any real difference in the accuracy potential between the Match and Select Match grades, the really demanding shooter must play it safe and go with the higher grade. In many cartridges and barrel twists, the accuracy difference between the two simply can't be detected. So unless you're gunning for one-hole groups, or just demand the top of the line, the Match Grade barrel is your best choice for many forms of competitive shooting and for hunting varmints and big game. The Match grade is completely stress relieved and fully warranted. The Price of Match Grade stainless steel barrels includes hand lapping to a beautifully smooth surface. Chrome-moly will be lapped to a similar finish at an additional charge. This grade is available in all of our calibers, twists, and contours.

These stainless steel masterpieces of machining and hand lapping are intended for the competition shooter - or even the hunter who wants the ultimate in accuracy and quality. These are Shilen's highest grade barrel and, of course, the most costly. What makes them so good that benchrest shooters, such as Tony Boyer, crave them? Consider this: To meet Select Match Grade criteria, the groove diameter must air gauge within 0.0003" of our standard diameter. Yes, you did read that correctly. Moreover, the uniformity of the bore cannot vary more than 0.0001" for the entire length of the barrel. These barrels are also completely stress relieved, and the bore is polished to a gleaming surface finish by Shilen's most experienced lappers.

To obtain the best possible accuracy from your new barrel we feel it is imperative that the action assembly be as free of stress as possible. All of the action's surfaces must be either exactly parallel to or perpendicular to the center line of the bolt and the bolt cut on the receiver.

When ever we rebarrel an action or barrel up a new action we check to make sure that everything is square and true. We start by placing the receiver over a perfectly indicated mandrill. With the use of dial indicators the threads and receiver face are checked for concentricity. The bolt face is checked to see that it is perfectly perpendicular with the bolt center line and parallel to the face of the receiver. The lugs are checked for adequate and even engagement.
